My second baby was a terrible sleeper during the newborn stages so when I found out we were having baby number three I had some major anxiety about those sleepless nights. With baby number three we’ve had a few rough nights, but overall these three products combined seem to help and she and I sleep a lot better.
When I heard of the Owlet Baby Monitor I knew I needed one for baby number three because I am a serious worrier and the Owlet helps take away the mommy-worry. Owlet is a monitor that features pulse oximetry. This is a fancy way of saying that the Owlet measures blood flow and oxygen levels. It features a smart sock that is placed on the baby’s foot. The pulse oximetry technology measures the baby’s heart rate and oxygen levels through this technology. The smart sock sends the information to a base, which will alert you if your baby’s oxygen or heart rate levels fall below the normal range. The base is designed to alert you if the sock falls off, or if baby’s levels are not in the normal range. The smart sock and base can also be connected to your iPhone to be able to monitor from your mobile device. I’m not a scientist by any means so to get more detailed information click here to sleep better and worry less with your own Owlet.
The reason I love this product so much is because the Owlet takes some of the worrying out of parenting. I am constantly checking on my sleeping kids and checking to make sure things around the house are in order. With my first two babies, I was a nervous wreck and would always check then double-check on my babies. There’s a lot that comes along with being a parent, in particular, a parent to a newborn like a recovery from birthing a human child, emotions and crazy hormones levels dropping and rising like crazy, adjusting to the new life with another human around, the lack of sleep and strange newborn party hours to name a few.
With all of the unexpected lifestyle changes with a newborn, it’s nice to have a product that can help ease some of the worries that come along with parenting. Now with the Owlet technology wrapped securely around my baby’s feet, I am able to get some night-time peace of mind.
I’m not gonna lie, the first night with the Owlet was a little rough. Our first night home from the hospital, I was running on empty and did not read the Owlet instructions and was trying to set everything up that night. I thought the Owlet was a bit complicated to understand at first (being exhausted may have contributed to this). I got frustrated because the baby kept wiggling and the Owlet could not get a good reading on her and then she kept kicking the sock off. My baby was a few weeks early and really little. I couldn’t figure out how to keep the smart sock on so I gave up.
The next day, however, I chatted with the customer service mom on the Owlet website. She told me I could put a sock over the smart sock to keep the monitor on. I thought the sock would get in the way of the monitoring, but I tried the sock trick the next night and everything worked perfectly. From then on using the Owlet on my baby has been smooth sailing. I’m getting better sleep at night knowing the Owlet is true to its promise of being, “up all night so I don’t have to be.”

The Ollie swaddle is a swaddle that is designed to help ease the transition from the womb to the outside world. It is made from moisture-wicking fabric, to reduce the risk of overheating. The swaddle features velcro so the swaddle will be secure and can be customized to the different sizes of baby. It also has an opening at the bottom to make late-night diaper changes much easier. The opening can be secured with an elastic band that is attached to the bottom of the swaddle. The Ollie Swaddle helps decrease the startle reflex by keeping baby secure and snug. The swaddle combined with baby sleeping on its back can help reduce the risk of SIDS. Because of the security it provides, it can help improve the quality of sleep–one of my favorite features!!
Our very first night with the Ollie swaddle was pure success. As soon as I fastened the velcro around my baby she fell asleep. It was like she was being wrapped in a warm hug and that was all she needed to fall into a peaceful slumber. She had been sleeping around three-hour stretches and the first night with the Ollie she slept about 4.5 hours. As I’m sure you know, an extra hour and a half between feedings are golden for parents with newborns! The velcro on this swaddle is excellent in keeping my baby swaddled and together. I have had many nights where my baby has broken out of her other swaddles like a ninja. After the escape, the cold air touches their toes, they wiggle and wake up so I’m thankful the Ollie has prevented this swaddling woe at our house.
A few nights later, my newborn had an inevitable blowout that got on the swaddle. This resulted in a change of clothes and a trip to the washer for the Ollie. I have had swaddles with velcro before and one of the things that bothered me was that the velcro would get stuck to other clothes even after securing them inside out. A benefit of the Ollie is that it comes with a laundry bag that prevents the Ollie from ruining other clothing. The Ollie is also a dream to clean and we were back to our restful sleep the next night.

If you haven’t tried these body suits to help your newborn sleep better, we highly suggest trying Dailies.

After having a night of my baby waking up every 30 minutes (it seemed) in the night. I finally bit the bullet and ordered a Dock-a-tot. Let me just tell you, it was the best decision! While I was pregnant I researched the Dock-a-tot. I wanted one so bad, but couldn’t justify the price. They are a bit pricey, but when I was faced with spending the money and getting better sleep or not spending it and getting very little sleep, I groggily ordered it as fast as possible. Now I must say I’m a DAT (Dock-a-tot) (I just made that up, I should patent it…) believer!!
The first night with the Dock-a-tot my baby slept for a three-hour stretch. This was a big increase from the 30 minutes to 1-hour stretches from the previous nights. I was an instant fan. Combining the Dock-a-tot and the Ollie swaddle, my baby now sleeps around 4-5 hours straight at a little over one-month-old. Hooray!
The genius behind the Dock-a-tot is that is designed to mimic the womb. It makes the baby’s surroundings cozier and snug like the womb. It helps reduce the baby’s startle reflex by making the baby feel more secure. Another feature I love about the Dock-a-tot is that it is so portable. It has handles on the top and side making it easy to take from room to room making it is super convenient for traveling because of its portability. With some traveling plans in the near future, I am excited to be able to take the DAT along with us and provide a familiar sleeping environment for baby. I can’t wait to see how the DAT holds up against travel and schedule interruptions.
The last and very important feature of the DAT, that I am a super fan of is its breath-ability. As mentioned above, I am one of those super anxious moms who check on my babies all the time. My husband sometimes thinks I am a crazy person. I love that the DAT is breathable so I don’t have to worry about baby not breathing if she snuggles up to the sides of the Dock-a-tot. When we first got the Dock-a-tot I squished my face up to the side to make sure I could breathe and I was pleasantly surprised that I could. Phew, one less thing to worry about.
We love using our Dock-a-tot in all the rooms around our house, but it has been the biggest lifesaver at bedtime. We have a Halo Bassinest that I LOVE (click here for my post on its amazing features) and the Dock-a-tot fits perfectly in it making sleep time super convenient. I just can’t say enough positive things about the Dock-a-tot. Thank you, DAT for giving this tired mama a few more, much needed, winks of sleep!
