Several, several years ago my mother invested in the first generation Vitamix blender. Wow- it was loud, yet a powerful blender that could literally chop up an entire apple! We soon discovered that there wasn’t a fruit the Vitamix could not blend while making fruit smoothies. Then, my mother got creative and started adding vegetables in the fruit smoothies and no one knew otherwise! Not only could this blender make healthy fruit and veggie smoothies easy we started making other foods too! Hot soups, salsa and even desserts! The Vitamix is the most versatile instrument in the for a family and I love it!
When I got married I told my husband that one day I wanted to own a Vitamix. For our eight wedding anniversary my husband bought me my first Vitamix and I have not looked back! Eating healthy as a family can be difficult. Sometimes you have to trick your kiddies into eating veggies. If you need some tips on helping your kids beg for veggies head to this post to learn more. I honestly use all of these tricks. The reason I love my Viamix so much is because I love smoothies. With this blender I can dump any kind of fruit and vegetable inside then walk away. I can later return to a smoothie waiting to be poured and devoured in a few short minutes. It is the best!
Pros and Cons about the Vitamix
What I don’t love:
1.) Big! The professional model of Vitamix I bought several years ago made the entire unit too big to fit under normal counter/cabinet spaces. Since my model however, there is a new Vitamix that can properly fit under the cabinet space which is awesome.
2.) LOUD! Good gravy the power of this machine means it is loud! Thankfully I have heavy sleepers and they sleep through the blending noises. And if they are awake and hear the blender- they all come running for their own cup of smoothie goodness.
3.) Cost. Whatever model you chose to go with, there will be a pretty penny involved with this purchase. The base model is as low as $349. If you are a penny-pincher like me- you can always shop the sales! Watch for sales at Christmas time, wait for a warehouse like Costco or Sams club to host a Vitamix show that will feature the machine at sale price. You can also shop their refurbished site as well for a screaming Vitamix deal.
What I love:
1.) Easy clean up! The worst part about cooking is cleaning up. With the Vitamix you squirt a little bit of soap and pour water in the blender container, turn the blender back on and once it’s ran the cycle– it’s clean and ready to be used again. The container is also dish-washer safe!
2.) Power! There any many different styles of the Vitamix and some are more powerful than others. But all are able to chop, blend, dice, and even create flawlessly smooth textures for all the different recipes.
3.) Built to last. I have had my Vitamix for over four years and I am proud to say- it still works like it’s brand new!
4.) A recipe book and DVD instructional manual. The Vitamix is not difficult to operate, however there are lots of ideas/foods the Vitamix is capable of making that I would never have tried. It’s pretty awesome. I love to make green smoothies and sometimes my food concoctions were not the best tasting. Later, I purchased this book to help me come up with other unique and healthy ideas to try.
5.) Power! I’ve mentioned this before- the power of the machine means it can take on pretty much anything you throw at it.
6.) The center damper- food gets stuck on the sides of the blender- it is inevitable. The center piece makes sure the food all gets down to the bottom of the blender and properly squished.
7.) Healthy living. I love how easy Vitamix makes it to blend fruit and vegetables. I make green smoothies the most and when my kids were little they had no idea how much spinach they were actually drinking in their smoothie. Total mom-win! Now that my kids are older we play a game where they guess what types of food I put in your smoothie. They do a pretty good job guessing the fruits and veggies right.
8,) I love the color. I know it’s silly to care about a kitchen gadgets color- but I chose red and it’s fun!
9.) Different feature settings. The model I have allows me to choose out of three settings: dessert, soup or smoothie. Once the setting is set- I hit start and the blender does the rest of the work. There is however a speed/power setting where I can manually blend. But, being a busy mom- hitting the smoothie setting then walking away is the way to go!
10.) Compatible attachments. The Vitamix has many other containers that are compatible with the Vitamix. One of which is a dry grains container that specializes in grinding nuts and wheat. With this container you can make home made peanut butter! Or grind your own wheat to make delicious homemade bread. Yum!

Conclusion:
I grew up watching my mom take full advantage of the Vitamx and our family reaped the benefits of eating healthy on a regular basis. I love how the Vitamix makes it easy for my kids to get the right start to their day with a dose of fruits and veggies. The machine may be a loud wake-up call in the morning, but this machine can pack a healthy punch to easily include in your daily life. Purchasing the Vitamix is an investment, but I believe the versatile kitchen gadget and improving you and your families overall health is worth it!
I know there are other blenders that are similar such as the Ninja and BlendTec. Which kitchen gadget do you prefer to use?
Happy Vitamix-ing,
Morgan
