Deodorant is the fix-all for BO (or body odor) most of the time. BO should not be something we moms should worry about, right? Wouldn’t it be nice to naturally smell of tropical coconut all the time? Well, your dreams can actually come true fellow momma! Read on to hear my deodorant story:
Seventh grade was rough for me. As if the changing social spheres wasn’t enough, it was also the first time I distinctly remember being self-conscious about the way I smelled. My personal hygiene routine included regular showers, clean clothes every day and deodorant. So I was perplexed why on a regular basis I still got hints of BO. I tried many different deodorants, none of which seemed to work for me. I was constantly worried about smelling bad. Every time I hugged someone or every time someone came near me, I prayed they couldn’t smell my BO.
Fast forward to my freshman year in college. I borrowed a shirt from one of my roommates and didn’t have a chance to clean it before she requested it back. I danced the night away in this shirt and when she came to grab it back, I was mortified. How could I give it back to her before I washed it? She insisted I hand over the shirt, she put it on then left for a party. I later heard from a different source that she said I was stinky. My heart broke. This only furthered my insecurity about stinking. I went to great lengths in college to try and rid myself of any smell, but nothing seemed to help.
I navigated years of dating and marrying my husband, all while still feeling self-conscious about smelling bad. When I was twenty-five years old I tested positive for the BRCA 2 mutation (the “cancer gene”). Having this mutation means you are at a very high risk of developing breast or ovarian cancer in your lifetime. Knowing about this increased risk, I started doing research to lower my chances of cancer by avoiding known carcinogens. At the top of most lists? The aluminum found in antiperspirants. Lovely. Regular deodorant wasn’t working for me, and now I had to go with only “natural” deodorant options. That or worry I was practically giving myself the cancer I was already prone to. I searched high and low for effective natural deodorants, but none of them seemed to make any difference in my body odor.
How Native Deodorant Changed My BO
** Before you continue reading, know I did not receive compensation for this post. I’m just a passionate fan!
Then, a few months ago a Facebook friend posted about a deodorant called Native. She had tried it, and loved it, and just wanted her friends to know about it. The best part was, this was an all-natural deodorant that didn’t have any aluminum or really any ingredients I couldn’t pronounce. I ordered the product right away.
The deodorant came in the funnest packaging and as soon as I opened the box the smell of fresh coconut filled the air. Sigh. It smelled so good. After putting Native on, I noticed a difference in my BO right away. Within a week, I wasn’t smelling BO at all. All day long. Even, when I was actively sweating. I even found that if I’d forgotten to put Native on in a day, I still didn’t stink. How could something work so well for me, when nothing had worked previously? It seems to me like Native deodorant kills off odor-causing bacteria in the best way possible. Needless to say, I was delighted with my results.
Last week my family was in Zion’s National Park on an epic hiking and rappelling adventure. We were on the hike for nearly twelve hours and ran the final mile and a half to catch the last bus out of the park. While we were riding down the canyon and reflecting on our amazing day, I thought, “Ugh, I probably stink” and did a quick pit check. Instead of smelling the familiar muskiness of a hard days work, instead I smelled the fresh scent of coconut. That’s right, not even a hint of body odor! YAHOO! My wonderful sister-in-law obliged to double-check for me and after sniffing my pit she said, “Wow! That smells amazing!” Ha! It was a serious pinch-me moment. After years of feeling self conscious about how I smelled, I was now purposely asking someone to sniff my armpit. And she liked it. Ha!
In conclusion:
I can’t even put into words how grateful I am for Native. I now hug people with confidence instead of with hesitation. How can you put a price on that? I am such a huge believer in Native deodorant and it’s magical powers to curb body odor that I think everyone should have it in their cupboard. Do yourself a favor and buy some. It’s $12, free shipping, and it is invaluable to me! Here’s where you can buy a bar.
