Loving on a newborn and not getting sleep is a problem that can only be fixed with naps, caffeine and snacks. However, if you are a mother to more than one child you know napping is nearly impossible. I personally can’t drink soda so my only solution is snacks, and lots of them. However, these snacks need to be real-energy-fueling and need to be kid-friendly because my kids always want to eat what mama is eating. So the hunt on Pinterest for delicious, kid-friendly and healthy snacks began.
Pinterest search immediately offered peanut butter balls with chocolate. Hmm hello, I love chocolate and peanut butter and these are called “energy- balls”. Ya- I knew I found a winner. After some tweaking of the recipe, and a couple of test runs I think I’ve perfected the no bake peanut butter ball recipe to not only eat now- but to freeze and save for another time too! Check out the recipe below.
Note- that there is a healthy version of these energy balls, as well as a- empty out the candy drawer delicious version. The healthy factor may have diminished with the m&m’s or crushed Oreos included in the recipe but.. it’s chocolate and delicious so there.
Option #2: Almonds and Cranberries
I have a friend who knows that I like chocolate, but also try to eat healthy. So, image my surprise when he introduced these to me… dark chocolate powered almonds. A match made in heaven! Again, eating a healthy snack is easy to do when it’s easily accessible and kid-friendly. So I pulled out the dried cranberries and almonds from the pantry and sprinkled them in a cupcake liner.
Instant gratification for the little ones because they want to eat what mom’s eating and it’s healthy! Win- win in the mom department. Like any mother who is nursing at all times of the day and night, I am always hungry. I like keeping a snack bag of these almonds and cranberries in my nursing basket so if the kids happen to steal one of mom’s “treats” at least they are eating something healthy.
