A Conversation About the Minivan Life
That van life though! I am one of those people that thought I would never own a van, boy did I think wrong!! With two kids 16 months apart, I finally decided to give in to the beckoning temptation of automatic sliding doors that only come on a van. I know you understand me when I tell you how difficult it was loading both kids in the car and not having enough hands to do so. After struggling to load the kids and not having enough room to open the car door, I told my husband that maybe we should look into a van (while gritting my teeth). We looked at a few local dealerships and instantly fell in love! I can open the doors from the key chain?! There’s a DVD player?! Heated seats for my buns?! Look at all that room!!! It’s safe to say we are now proud van owners. I have given into the fact that I probably don’t look super cool in the van, especially after I drop the kids off and I am one passenger in this seven passenger vehicle ( I frequently want to sing “All by myseeeeeelf”).
People laugh and joke, but I know one day they will give in too. Honestly, once you switch to a van you will never want to go back, especially with small children! Anyone who rides with us feels the luxury and they automatically get sucked into the joys of the DVD player. I even see the adults back there watching Frozen! I see you singing “Let it Go” back there! Another feature that has been awesome in our van is we can basically use it as a truck as well! We are capable of putting down all the seats and BAM! endless room. It was brilliant to use when we moved across town.
I may look like I’ve given up on trying to be cool, but who else gets to know every line of every Disney movie without actually watching any of the movie?! Heck, I’ve caught myself listening to the movies when there are no kids with me!
There was a time I would have laughed at the idea of having a luxury limo service full of children jamming out to Justin Bieber, but hey- it is glorious and also very roomy! Do you recall as a youth claiming you would never be like your mom and then one day you catch yourself saying something you’ve heard your mom say?! Well my friend- you are a mom! Congrats!
The point is: don’t knock it ‘til you try it! Don’t judge me in all this van glory! I am just like you, but I enjoy opening my sliding doors from a distance, traveling with as much stuff as we want, having a rear back-up cam (so I don’t strain my neck), and singing Disney songs with my kids at the top of my lungs! We are the same, but perhaps I’m a bit more comfortable with my buns heated and all this glorious space.
Thanks for reading!
