Is this you?
How many times has this happened to you? You have amazing plans to go to bed early and catch up on some much needed sleep. You put the kids to bed early, have the house all clean and get ready for bed. Only to make the dread mistake of opening Facebook or Instagram. NOOOO! Now you are sucked in for at least a half hour. Scrolling through your feed liking cute baby faces and pretty action pictures. Then, you look at the time and it’s been an hour!! What the heck?! How did I get sucked into reading seventeen memes and watching one too many funny cat videos??
If you read the first paragraph while thinking *amen sista* then you’ve made this mistake too. I swear this happens to me way too often. Then, when it’s time to get up before the sun, I am mad at myself for not taking full-advantage of that extra hour. Although a lot of times it feels like sleep deprivation is just the way motherhood is, we as moms don’t always take getting enough sleep– seriously. Jodi A. Mindell, PhD, author of Sleep Deprived No More: From Pregnancy to Early Motherhood- – Helping You & Your Baby Sleep Through the Night states: “Sleep deprivation has so many serious consequences for [our] health and [our] families.”
The Challenge
Today’s challenge is simple. Go to bed at least fifteen minutes earlier once this week. Sometimes this can be sooo hard especially when we spend our days catering to tiny humans. Once they are finally asleep, it can be nice to sit down and unwind with a TV show or some social media. I know I love me some Scandal and Grey’s Anatomy on a Thursday night, but at times I have to set a specific time to go to bed. If I don’t I’ll get sucked into watching multiple episodes or liking way too many pictures on Insta.
How to Complete The Challenge
Set an alarm. If needed, set an alarm for the time you need to get going to bed. Or even set an alarm for five minutes before that time so you can mentally prepare to hit the hay. Mom’s need our alone time, but we also need our rest. As they say…happy mom…happy…everyone (until the toddler throws a tantrum). Why not balance the two. Most things in life are about compromise. You are beautiful but, a little beauty rest never hurt “nobody!”
You’re doing great mama!
xoxo,
Jordyn
