Jude & Fi: A Mom with a Mission

in Friday Favorites, Our Favorites on 13/10/17

Every mom has a beautiful story to tell. These stories spark conversations that bring us together and unite us in the sisterhood that is Motherhood. Shannon is one of those amazing mommies that takes things to the next level and makes you want to do better by the world. We wanted to share her little story with you because it is an inspiration, and inspiring happy, healthy, homes is what Mommy Convos is all about. And as a little bonus, stick with us to the end for an exciting treat!

Jude & Fi

The Inspiration Behind Jude & Fi

Shannon Blaeske is the owner and creator of “the simple little accessory company” Jude & Fi. She is a wife and mommy to three kiddos; a set of twin nine-year-old boys, Gavin and Breiden and her seven-year-old daughter Fiona. Shannon is also a hairdresser and avid creator of the cutest little hair bows you’ve ever seen.

The inspiration behind Jude and Fi comes from her daughter and her mom. Shannon says, “the Fi in Jude & Fi is for Fiona, who was my muse for making slip/tug resistant hair clips for her super fine hair. Most people are confused where Jude came from, and that was my mother’s nickname. She passed away when Fiona was only two years old, and I inherited all her craft supplies. The first clips I made for Fiona and the shop were made from my mother’s embroidery thread and crafting stuff. The company is my way of honoring the two most important women in my life.”

Shannon is also a Down Syndrome (DS) advocate for her daughter Fiona who has Down Syndrome, and encourages her digital community to support DS awareness and Ruby’s Rainbow– a non-profit foundation dedicated to the higher educational needs of adults with Down Syndrome.

Bows, Bows, and More Bows

It is no surprise that with three little girls at our house we have the world’s largest stash of hair accessories known to mankind… Yeah, it’s that bad. My husband has repeatedly brought this problem to my attention, but I can’t help it. Bows are so cute! However, the problem with most of our bows is their inability to hold up to toddler shenanigans which causes the bows to fall out or get pulled out. *cue sideways glare* (Yep. I’m looking at you, kid…)

Jude & Fi

Every mom with girls knows the agony of doing their daughter’s hair and not fifteen seconds later it’s a giant tangled mess… (But really… Why do they have to touch it?! Haha.)  When Shannon reached out to us, I was floored by their unique and adorable collection! This was a solution to all my toddler hair woes!

Wig Clips VS Traditional Alligator Clips

The difference between the hair bows from Jude & Fi and all the other little shops- is Jude & Fi uses wig clips. She has traditional alligator snap clips and headbands in their shop as well, but the wig clips… the wig clips you guys! Can we say GENIUS?!

Jude & Fi

Jude and Fi’s wig clips vs one of the regular alligator clips we have in our stash of bows.

A wig clip is unique from the regular alligator clips you see around. While they snap open like a alligator clip, these have little combs on them that help snag even the finest hairs to keep the bow in place.

Now, maybe I’ve been hiding under the hair accessory rock somewhere, but these bows are a complete game-changer for us. No more bows making a run for it or getting pulled out by little Grabby McGee over here. These suckers STAY-PUT. We put Jude & Fi bows to the test during our two-year-old daughter’s gymnastics class and with forty-five minutes of climbing, jumping, running around, and even a few somersaults her little clip was perfectly in place the entire time. #momwin

Bows with a Cause

In honor of Down Syndrome awareness month, Shannon donates $5 of each of her DS awareness coffee cosies as well as a portion of the proceeds from TheBBtee’s give-back tees in her shop to Ruby’s Rainbow every October. These donations raise money for grants to help students with DS attend secondary education programs. These grants greatly improve options for employment and help students be better prepared for an independent life. That is a cause we can stand behind.
