How Did I Not Know About Podcasts?! + My 5 Favorites

in Conversations on 28/01/19

I feel like I was living under a rock as far as podcasts go. I literally learned about podcasts this past Summer (yes, you read that correctly—Summer 2018). Apparently they have been around since 2004 and Apple adopted them to their App Store/Apple Music in 2005. As far as I can tell they became really popular in the last couple years. My iPhone (like most) has the Podcast App automatically downloaded and I just ignored it. I don’t understand what it was and I didn’t really care to learn at that point. So, Podcasts have pretty much been around for a long time (and are pretty popular), but I was clueless.

What is a Podcast?

Basically, a Podcast is like an audio blog post. So it’s what we do at Mommy Convos, but the audio version. Hosts talk about different topics and they usually have ongoing episodes depending on the schedule they decide on. Podcast listeners can listen and/or subscribe to different Podcast channels via the Podcast app through different devices.

It wasn’t until a friend told me about a “true life mystery” podcast that she had been listening to that I got interested. I was taking a solo trip to Utah from California last Summer and I decided to give it a try. I asked her what the Podcast was called and briefly how to even work the Podcast app. It was simple to find and I was up and running.

I’m sure you’re dying to know (hehe) what Podcast got me hooked – so I’ll tell you. The first podcast I ever listened to was called Up and Vanished. It’s an unsolved mystery of cold cases for many years. The Podcast host decided to dig into the story to see if he could find any new information. What unfolds is pretty crazy! I intently listened to the Podcast the entire six hours drive. Then, every night I was in Utah I would listen to it before I went to bed. I just HAD to know what happened. Seriously, super addicting.

Since this summer, I expanded my Podcast reach and the list of my top 5 Podcasts are super random. They don’t have a lot in common, but here you go…

Top 5 Favorite Podcasts:

1. The Secret to Success (an awesome motivational podcast featuring ET the Hip Hop Preacher)

2. Up and Vanished (first and most addicting!)

3. Atlanta Monster (a spin-off of Up and Vanished—also super addicting)

4. Julie Solomon’s: The Influencer Podcast (I highly suggest this great Podcast for Influencers. Such great information)

5. The Daily Show-Ears Edition (This is an audio version of the Daily Show With Trevor Noah-he’s hilarious so I get pretty sucked into this one too).

The great thing about Podcasts are (for most important) free. You can listen when driving; cleaning; working out; or just lounging and there are so many different topics! There are Podcasts about everything. Search for what you’re interested in and you’re sure to find a Podcast host that talks all about it.

Since I am still fairly new to the “Podcast” game, I would love to hear some of your favorite Podcasts and why! I am always looking to add to my library!

If you are an expert Podcast-listener, I hope I shared some helpful Podcasts. And please share some of your favorite Podcasts with me! Or, if you are a newbie (and maybe never heard of them) I hope I have broadened your horizons.

I can’t wait to hear your input!

xoxo,

Jordyn
