Happy Friday! Jennica here, talking about three of my favorite things lately! We’ll chat about an awesome method to have baked goodies on demand for cheap; some spices that truly make a huge difference in how much I enjoy cooking; and… the Cocomotion!
Efficient Treat Method.
Several months ago, I noticed a little cart by the eggs in my local Walmart. It had a dozens of doughnuts, cakes, and cookies that all looked quite delicious… But wait: the prices on them were 75% off, like $1.89 for a huge chocolate lava cake! “Hmmm…” I thought, “That looks like a lot of deliciousness for less than two bucks! I actually need a treat for family night tonight! What do I have to lose?..” So I bought it, and gave a it a shot that night. We’re dealing with time-sensitive baked goods here, so you gotta freeze what you can’t use right away. We gave it a thumbs up!
My whole family has been pleasantly surprised with how good everything tastes, even after freezing. It’s been a bit of a slippery slope, ’cause now every time I pass that cart, I look to see if anything looks yummy to stick in my freezer until we need a treat for family night, a birthday, or an outing. I place it on a pretty plate after heating it up, and it often costs less than the ingredients to make it, with ZERO effort to make it, or clean up!!!
PS- Another favorite trick: the pretty cake-plate shown above is just a bowl flipped upside down, and then a plate placed on top! I’m convinced that presentation is everything when it comes to desserts! Now, I will admit that a tried-and-true homemade dessert is often significantly yummier, (which means I will eat significantly more of it!!!) … But sometimes for 2 hours of prep, stress, hands-on-time, and clean-up… This is a great option that usually comes with a really close result: a sweet delight 🙂
I was going to use Costco’s cinnamon as a “Friday Fave” all by itself because it is so sweet, and tastes like a hundred times better than any other cinnamon I’ve ever had. AND it’s super cheap: $3 for a bottle that lasts us heavy cinnamon-users 3-4 years.
However, then I remembered how Costco’s bullion I recently bought totally MADE the last few soups I’ve cooked, much better than I anticipated. Great bang for your buck, and tastes extra delicious. Their taco seasoning does not have MSG and it’s a fraction of the cost of the packets at the grocery store. Lastly, the Hidden Valley Ranch seasoning is also way cheaper in bulk. I love being able to make homemade ranch in a snap! The four of these huge bottles cost me under 15 bucks and will last me years.
My parents got this for a gift when I was in high school, and I remember thinking “That’s kind of a dumb thing… you CAN make hot cocoa without having a whole appliance for it.”
Oh how naiive I was… I did yet not know how it would whip up hot chocolate, “hot vanilla” (milk, vanilla and smidgen of sugar) or any hot drink (Pero or Roma are faves at our house) to PERFECTION! You put in whatever you’re craving, press the button, and the machine stops when it’s ready! Your hot drink has the perfect amount of frothy-ness, and is the ideal temperature! Less mess, guess-work, and time; with a more delicious result! I seriously have been using the cocomotion multiple times day lately!
I’m not the only one that thinks it is pretty great. On Amazon, they go for well over $100 since they are discontinued! But, they do have some used cocoa-motions for around $40. If you are a thrift-shoppper like myself, I would keep an eye out at yard sales and second-hand shops. Since I figure I can’t be the only one that likes to read reviews on amazon, I pasted a few below for you reading pleasure!
