Happy New Years!
What a joy it feels to start a New Year of possibilities. I’m sure many of you have thought about writing down some goals for the new year. What did you write down? If you haven’t started- might I suggest checking out this blog post on how I personally write out my goals for the year. Start here:
I find through the years- one of my goals is always to eat better and to take better care of my body. Have you made similar goals? Well- as wonderful as these goals are- they are hard to follow through. I am a busy mom with four kids now… phew! So how can I prepare healthy home-cooked meals for my family when we’re always on the move? The answer is simple my friends- let me introduce you to my all-time favorite kitchen device.. the Crock Pot.
My Love Affair with the Crock Pot
Do you own a Crock Pot? This baby was a wedding gift- nearly thirteen years ago- so it’s a little hammered, but well loved! The beauty of a Crock Pot is this- dump a whole bunch of edible contents inside, set the temperature and walk away. Simple and glorious cooking process.
What I love about my Crock Pot- is the self-timer. I can throw items in the Crock Pot, choose the temperature, set the timer and walk away. The Crock Pot will stop cooking and just keep the food on warm until we are ready to eat. Genius feature for a busy family like mine where we sometimes eat dinner at different times of the day.
This is not the exact crock pot- I mean mine is twelve years old, but this one is pretty close to what I have. If you are in the market for a new kitchen device- grab this one!
My mother-in-law purchase an Instant Pot last year and swears she loves this device even more than her Crock Pot. Hmm hello? Is that even possible? Tiffaynee received her Instant Pot this year, watch for all the details in her own article. Have you taken the plunge and purchased an Instant Pot? Truthfully, I think I will wait until my Crock pot gives up the ghost before I replace ole-reliable. For those that have both devices- which one do you prefer?
Don’t like doing dishes- might I suggest the best companion invention to the Crock Pot… the disposable liner.
Healthy Food:
On a tight budget, cooking can be difficult, hence the reason I love this book. Anyway- best recipe book in the world. Guaranteed to have a complete meal without breaking the bank. And the best part about buying this book and using the Crock Pot right now- is that it’s winter and everyone loves having warm food this time of the year. Delicious!
There is nothing better than smelling a homemade meal cooking in the kitchen, while you sit and read a book (ha!!). At least you aren’t standing over a hot stove cooking dinner. Our family is always on the go and knowing I can throw a bunch of ingredients in the Crock Pot in the afternoon and can walk away until dinner time is a glorious feeling. If you are looking for a healthy cooking solution to your busy families lifestyle- do yourself a favor… Dust off the Crock Pot, plug it in, throw in some veggies, spices and frozen meat in the pot and walk away. The delicious aroma of dinner will fill the home and the best part- you weren’t slaving over your meal all day.
Happy cooking!
