Our souls were designed to create. Yes, even those who claim there isn’t a creative bone in their body. You are designed to contribute, to put life into this world. Sometimes, when we feel a void, we attempt to fill it by consuming things: entertainment, food, media, or sleep. Consumption has a necessary place in our lives and we can absolutely benefit from consumption at times. However, we cannot forget how important creating is to our souls too.
Creativity requires vulnerability. Often, it’s not laziness that stops us from creating, but fear. We are afraid of what others will think of our product. What if we totally stink at it? People might think we’re silly or ridiculous. Truth is – you have something important to give the world! So, today rather than consuming, choose to create.
Some ideas for creation you can do today:
- Cultivate a friendship by inviting them over for lunch.
- Make a space more useful and purposeful by organizing it.
- If you love to read, WRITE something: a journal entry, a card, or a blog post.
- Take some time beautifying your yard, or better yet: grow some vegetables!
- Create a “moment” with your spouse tonight 😉 😉
Creation and Consumption
I loved this idea of creation and consumption from Jody Moore on her Bold New Mom podcast. I would highly recommend listening! She is incredible at identifying thought patterns and articulating how we can be happier moms! Moore has blessed my life in a big way. I hope to spread more of Jody Moore’s goodness around.
Here are a few things the kids and I created in our home this week:
I took this area over my fridge and organized it. The “before” pic was pretty BAD!
I planted these beauties earlier this spring. Love what $3 worth of seeds from Dollar Tree can do to brighten up a day! I hope by mid-summer I can cut some off and share with friends!
So, with this knowledge of creation and consumption, what do you want to create this week?
