Conversations on Working Full-Time Outside the Home:
How to Manage-ish….
Well, I wish I could offer some profound words of wisdom, but I‘m afraid I am still not a pro at this lifestyle change yet. Working full-time with two young children still at home has been one of the hardest decisions I have ever made. The biggest reason my husband and I decided that I should go full-time is because we are expecting baby number three and with my benefits at work, we would have double insurance covered at birth, part of a paid maternity leave, and also have some extra money saved for when I’m not working. I have never worked full time before, let alone with two kids and one on the way and for heaven sakes…I’m exhausted!
Managing all my motherly and work tasks has been okay, and when I say okay, I mean when the guilt of not being super mom creeps into my thoughts at night I tell myself, “Hey…we are all still living…we ate something edible…and we are pretty happy most of the time.” That’s a win!
The best thing about working outside the home full time is that I appreciate the time I get with my kids more. I cherish the weekends and the time we spend as a family. When I was a stay-at-home mom I know I took that time for granted. Another benefit of working out of the home full-time is that I feel fulfilled in a way that I haven’t felt before. As a mom I always have the push and pull of wanting to spend every second with my kids, but also wanting to do something else that makes me happy aside from them, but if I don’t feel fulfilled or happy, there’s no way I can be the best mom possible to my kids.
No matter what the situation is, as long as you feel fulfilled and happy in what you are doing (and it’s beneficial to yourself and the family), you will be the best and most effective mom you can be.
Getting this feeling of fulfillment doesn’t have to come from a paycheck, it can come from many different enjoyable activities. As moms, sometimes we forget to take care of ourselves because we get busy taking care of everybody else. I strongly believe that finding something you enjoy, that’s just yours, can help you feel fulfilled. It’s important for moms to be happy and healthy so we can share that happiness with our little ones we love the most.
What do you do as a mom/woman to feel fulfilled? Maybe we can all pick up some new hobbies from each other!
Lots of Love,
PS. Sometimes our hobbies or other interests can make us feel like we aren’t spending enough quality time with each child. Check out Jennica’s post tomorrow about how to have “One-On-One Special Time With Your Kids!” #WhatsWorkingWednesday
