7 Ideas to Make Mother’s Day Special

in Conversations on 14/04/16

Mother’s Day is May 8th this year. We want to make sure we have some ideas flowing ahead of time so that when Mother’s Day hits, we can just enjoy the day! My sister-in-law’s sister-in-law 😉 blogs at The Happy Flammily and had a post about gifts for the out of town mom that I thought was great, and she agreed to share a few more ideas she would recommend to make this Mother’s Day special!

Hey Everyone! I’m excited to be posting over here on MommyConvos today! Big thanks to Jennica for seeking me out and bringing me over here to share a few posts with you guys every now and then! Today I’m going to be sharing with you some awesome ideas of things you can make or buy for you mom on Mother’s Day. The best part about all of these things is that they’re simple and really inexpensive, so anyone on the smallest budget can pull these off!
1. Make Her Breakfast: I for one will never turn down a breakfast in bed, especially on Mother’s Day. One great option of something you could make would be these quinoa breakfast bowls. They’re awesome because they’re super healthy and you can totally customize the toppings to go with your mom’s preferences. If you’re mom is into something a little sweeter than these Vegan Banana Apple Muffins would be a huge success. They’re made with bananas, apples, almond milk, and a couple other easy ingredients and taste absolutely amazing. They’re our go-to muffin recipe in our house!

Love this idea:

2. Children’s Books: On my first Mother’s Day my husband bought me some Mother’s Day themed children’s books and I thought that it was just the cutest thing ever! This has turned into a bit of a tradition in our house, and I really look forward to it. Some of our favorites have been The Night Before Mother’s Day, What Not to Get Your Mom on Mother’s Day, Are You My Mother, and Love You Forever.

3. Something She Needs: One thing your mom loves is to know that you care, and are listening. My mom had been needing a new water bottle for ages, and always talked about it, so last year for Mother’s Day I bought her one and she always talks about how much she uses it. Keep your ears open and I’m sure you’ll be able to pick our something she needs in no time!

4. A Spa Night: Sometimes all a busy mom really wants are a few minutes of relaxation. Pick up her favorite body wash, and a candle and she’ll be happy to have a relaxing evening at home. I love using soy candles because they burn a lot longer than traditional candles and they’re a lot healthier for you to breath in then your average candle. This three pack of soy candles look super adorable and they’re really affordable! Also, I can’t recommend Lush Bath Bombs and Bubble Bars enough. ***How fun would it be if you could enjoy a spa night together?

5. Make Her Dinner: A couple years ago I happened to be home from college on spring break for Mother’s Day and I made my mom dinner for the very first time. It was this Lemon Chicken with broccoli and rice. It was a huge success and I remember my mom excitedly eating seconds. I guess food tastes a lot better when your kids cook it instead of you. I also love this 15 Minute Shrimp Scampi, and this Light Lime Garlic Shrimp.
Lemon Chicken Recipe:
Ingredients:
1lb boneless skinless chicken breast
1 lemon
1 tsp chopped garlic
salt and pepper to taste
1/4 cup water
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350°
In a 2 quart baking dish, pour the water in the bottom and then add in the chicken. Salt and pepper the chicken to taste and evenly distribute the garlic on top. Squeeze the juice of one lemon over the top of the chicken, and thinly slice the other half and place on top of the chicken.
Bake in the oven for about 25-30 minutes or until fully cooked in the center. Serve warm with your favorite sides! (I used brown rice and broccoli!)

Thank you, Paige! I thought I’d add a couple more to the list:

6) Pictures of you and/or your kids. Holding a cute sign makes it even more memorable! Here are some cute quotes to give you some ideas you could write on a chalkboard and have your kids hold. I loved sayingsimages.com.

 grandmother-quotes       quotes for grandma
7) Plan a fun activity that the two of you could do the next time you are together: a hike or scenic walk, play her favorite sport with her, go to a conference, just whatever her interests are! We’ve done a mother’s day hike for the last three years around mothers day and its a great excuse for our whole family to get out and do something she likes, and in turn we all bond and have a wonderful time!
We hope your Mother’s Day is filled with lots of love! Please, tell us what’s been your biggest gift-giving success you’ve had for your mom?

Thanks so much for having me over here today! I love the idea of getting a picture of the kids! We did that for my dad for Father’s Day a couple years ago and he loved it!
