We say it all the time, but we do it far less than we should… Date nights. Most couples have great intentions to have date nights as often as possible, but life gets busy and a lot of times they are put off. My husband and I planned to do a traditional date night once a week… welp… that definitely doesn’t happen, but there are other options besides the traditional date night. By traditional date nights, I mean like you see in the movies. The husband and wife get all dressed up, they go to a fancy dinner with a seven course meal, have great conversation (not about the kids), they leave smiling, holding hands without a care in the world.
This is what actually happens: If the parents get out of the house it’s usually a rush out the door to try to make it on time to dinner or a movie. Once they arrive to said place, there are usually random stains on the parents clothes and it seems like all conversations revolve around the kids.
Don’t get me wrong, my husband and I have had some awesome dates, but at this stage in our life they don’t happen very often. Because of this phase, I have come up with a five cheap and easy date nights that don’t require a babysitter or dressing fancy (unless you want to):
The Five Ideas:
1. Movie Night at Home
This is probably our favorite one. Sometimes is is hard to get out to the theater so why not try it at home. Rent a movie from RedBox or Amazon (we usually rent on our Firestick), get some snacks, pop some popcorn and enjoy a cuddle sesh on the comforts of your own couch.
2. Take Personality Quizzes Together
One of our favorites is the Love Language quiz. It has been a great way for us to figure out what types of acts fill our love language buckets and each others so we can cater the things we do around that.
3. Give Each Other Pedicures
A couple years ago for our anniversary I convinced my husband to get a pedicure with me. He was super hesitant, but after all was said and done he actually kind of enjoyed it. An easy way to get a simple pedicure is to give one to each other. Relaxation and chatting at its finest.
4. Give each other Massages
Whether it is a foot massage or a back massage, massages are a great way to relax, unwind, and spend some quality time with your spouse.
5. Play a Board Game or Card Game
My husband and I like playing cards. One of my faves is Egyptian Rat. It can get a bit competitive, but that might just be me (oops). Another one we love is Spot It. There are many different variations that come with the game, but it is super simple and fun!
Hopefully this post inspires some one-on-one time with your partner or someone you enjoy spending time with, without kiddos. Although we don’t go out on official dates often it is needed.
What are your favorite cheap date night ideas? Let us know in the comments below we would love to add to our list!!
